Walnuts are particularly heart-healthy, packed with ALA (alpha linoleic acid), which helps contribute to the nut’s ability to reduce the inflammation in arteries that can occur after a fat-loaded meal. This spread goes well with everything from raw veggies to toast to tofu to roast chicken.
Spicy Walnut Butter
Ingredients
- 2 cups raw walnuts
- 1/2 tsp. cumin
- Pinch of salt
- 1 to 2 teaspoons hot sauce
Directions
- Place the walnuts in a food processor. Pulse the nuts until they turn grainy. Continue blending until the mixture becomes a ball and, finally, a smooth paste.
- Add the cumin and salt and blend well. Add the hot sauce half a teaspoon at a time, tasting the butter after each addition until level of spiciness is reached.
- Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.
