Some babies are amazing with teething – you would never even know, but others (ahem, mine) were definitely struggling. How can you tell if your baby is teething? Usually they are chomping on just about anything they can fit in their mouth. They drool incessantly, are generally grumpy, refuse to nap and sometimes even have diarrhea. No fun for anyone.
There are several ways to help ease the pain for your little love. One option is to set a wet washcloth in the freezer for an hour and let them suck on it. The cool, hard washcloth will feel good on their tender gums. Another option is the wide array of teething gels on the market. However, I am of the mindset of staying away from the gels when possible to avoid unnecessary additives, preservatives and chemicals. So why not try a teething biscuit instead? My recipe below is fresh, allergy-free and has only seven ingredients. Better yet, it only takes 20 minutes to prepare. Bon appetite to you and your little one!
Michelle's Allergy-Free Teething Biscuit
Ingredients:
- 1 cup rolled oats, ground to dust using a spice grinder
- 1 cup oat flour
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1 overripe banana, mashed
- 2 tablespoons apple puree
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 4-8 tablespoons water
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Mix all ingredients in a medium bowl beginning with only 4 tablespoons of water and adding more if needed. Using your hands, mix well until a dough forms.
- Roll out on an oat-floured surface until about 1/2 inch thick. Cut dough into shapes using a cookie cutter or slice them into bars.
- Place shapes on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes and allow to cool before serving.
